Problem for this Week/Module: A large hospital system in Georgia, due to state law, must report instances of certain disease (e.g., Botulism, Cholera, COVID-19, Hep C, etc.) to the Georgia Department of Public. Right now, the options for reporting are: Use the SENDSS system which requires retyping the case information into a web form and submitting, call DPH, or fax a notifiable disease form to DPH. Let’s say, however, that DPH is moving away from requiring manual data reentry into a web form (SENDSS), calling, or faxing, and wants to move to a type of system called Electronic Case Reporting (eCR). Given what you have learned in this module, what do you think the large hospital system and the DPH will need to do in order to enable successful and automatic transfers of case reports for notifiable diseases from the hospital system to DPH via eCR?
